Snakebite is a self-contained assessment package that investigates the global health crisis of snakebites.
Snakebites are a serious global health issue, primarily affecting rural, tropical regions of the world, particularly in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Every year, millions of people are bitten by snakes, and hundreds of thousands suffer from envenoming, leading to permanent disabilities or death. The most affected populations are often those in poverty, relying on agriculture for their livelihood, where encounters with venomous snakes are common.
The assessment can be completed with pen and paper using the printed resource booklet, or completed on your school’s digital platform with the help of an attractive online version of the resources. Students will describe the spatial pattern of snake envenoming around the world, explain the factors and processes that contribute to this pattern, and evaluate the social and economic significance for people.
The NCEA Assessment Package includes two versions of the assessment documents. So, you can choose to use it for either:

What’s in the Package?
There are two versions of the assessment booklet and marking schedule. So, you can choose to complete it as:
- Level 3 Geography

AS91246: Explain aspects of a geographic topic at a global scale.
The Assessment Booklet consists of write-on sheets for students to provide their responses, with spacing that indicates appropriate answer length. Assessment booklet has a coversheet (customisable) that outlines the achievement standard, instructions and key terms. There is also a Google Doc version available.
A range of video clips are provided to watch as a class, or for students to watch individually. The video clips help them understand the issue and develop their answers.
The full colour resource booklet consists of articles and images that help students develop their answers.
The videos and resource booklet articles are also available for students to access online on a stylish custom website.
A simple graphing and mapping activity, along with video question sheets, are provided to help introduce the topic to students and develop their understanding.
The detailed marking schedule also contains a range of example answers for each task and indications for NCEA grade differentiation.
You can choose to edit and customise the assessment sheets or marking schedule to meet your school’s needs.
